Arsenal defender William Gallas insists there was nothing wrong with his tackle on Bolton Wanderers midfielder Mark Davies last week.

Trotters boss Owen Coyle claimed the incident was "akin to assault" before backing down.

But Gallas said: "I have a clear conscience over what happened.

"Football is a hard sport and things happen in every game. The referee didn't even blow for a foul.

"I am sorry if the player is injured because I have also been injured in my career.

"The Bolton criticism is understandable - it's the action of a team upset at having lost an important game they were winning 2-0."
