Arsenal are closing in on Southampton teenage fullback Jamie Shaw.

The Daily Mail says chief scout Steve Rowley ran the rule over the 16-year-old in the Saints' Under 18s 7-0 win over Sheffield United in the FA Youth Cup on Tuesday.

Shaw, who is a pacy, attacking full back, is yet to make his senior debut but is heralded as one of the brightest young talents in the country.

Southampton's academy has proven to be fruitful for Arsenal in recent years, with both Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain learning their trade on the south coast.
