Arsenal chief Gazidis: Wenger has wanted Chamakh for some time

Arsenal chief Ivan Gazidis has welcomed the Bosman deal for Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh.

Chamakh was unveiled by the Gunners yesterday as their first signing of the summer market.

Gazidis told arsenal.com: "Arsène (Wenger) has been following the progress of Marouane Chamakh for some time and has identified him as a player that will add significant strength to our squad. We're delighted that Marouane has chosen Arsenal ahead of the many other clubs that were interested in him."
