Arsenal chief Brady wants Ireland job

Arsenal academy director Liam Brady has put his hand up for the Republic of Ireland job after Steve Staunton's dismissal.

"If I was offered it, I would consider taking the job," said Brady, who revealed he was interviewed for the job before Mick McCarthy was appointed more than 10 years ago.

Brady faces competition from fellow former Ireland players David O'Leary and John Aldridge, while the FAI are likely to consider Graeme Souness, Paul Jewell, Kenny Dalglish and Peter Reid, as well as any coaches who may be ousted when Euro 2008 qualifying ends next month - including Terry Venables.

Under 21 coach Don Givens is expected to take charge of the senior team for the final qualifier against Wales in Cardiff next month.
