Arsenal chasing Wigan starlet McCarthy

Arsenal are chasing Wigan Athletic whizkid James McCarthy.

The News of the World says Arsene Wenger sent chief scout Steve Rowley to watch the Wigan and Republic of Ireland midfielder against Bolton.

The 19-year-old had to bide his time under Roberto Martinez but since getting his chance after moving from Hamilton he has excelled.

With Aaron Ramsay sidelined, a goalscoring midfielder like McCarthy has now caught the Frenchman's eye.
