Arsenal boss Wenger won't break bank to fix midfield

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is adamant he doesn't need to spend big to fix his midfield.

Wenger is still working to sign an experienced central midfield player but has warned fans that he will not plunge the club into debt to do so.

He also confirmed he is a big fan of Everton's star Spanish midfielder Mikel Arteta. The Frenchman admitted: "I have identified a few potential signings but I cannot promise anything I am not certain of achieving.

"I am hopeful I can bring someone in but I will only do that if he is a special talent.

"I have a budget for new signings but it is not as big as some people seem to think.

"But the best players are not necessarily those who cost the most money. I can name you players who have cost £30m and been a flop."
