Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will try again for Borussia Dortmund star Mario Gotze in January. The Sunday Mirror says Wenger was keen to sign the 19-year-old attacking midfielder last summer when Borussia ­Dortmund resisted all advances.

But they may be prepared to ­listen to offers if their Champions League campaign keeps ­faltering. They are in Arsenal's group and the point they gained in the 1-1 draw with Wenger's men in ­Germany is the only reward for their efforts.

They have lost to Olympique Marseille and Greek outfit Olympiacos, whom they play at home on Tuesday. Failure to win will leave them short of the considerable cash injection that qualification for the knock-out round will bring.

Wenger would like to sign Götze before the summer - and Borussia's European demise could signal his arrival at Arsenal, generating £17.5million for the Germans.
