Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is in the market for new defensive signings in January.
The Mirror says Wenger is also aiming to bring in TWO centre-backs as he looks to bolster his injury-hit defence and help that unit try to find some consistency.
There is an acceptance they left themselves short after selling Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona in the summer.
That decision has left them stretched with full-back Nacho Monreal having to fill in at centre-half, so they will try to bring in two defenders with one likely to be a young prospect and the other a more established player who can fit into the squad.
There is concern about Per Mertesacker's form, so the chase is on to find an experienced centre-half to be an alternative.
