Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is preparing an extension deal for Robin van Persie.
The Dutch striker enters the final year of his current contract at the end of the coming season and Wenger knows he must secure his future and avoid losing him on the cheap. Wenger has come under allowing Samir Nasri to run his down.
Holland hitman Van Persie was in blistering form at the end of last season and has rattled in 20 goals in his last 22 games for the club.
The Daily Star Sunday says Van Persie's contract is not due to expire until 2013 but the proposed new mega-deal would tie him to Arsenal until 2016.
