Arsenal boss Wenger thrilled with two-goal hero Nketiah

Arsene Wenger was overjoyed by the performance of Eddie Nketiah against Norwich City in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

With the Gunners down 1-0 after Josh Murphy's first half goal, Wenger introduced the 18-year-old with six minutes remaining in normal time. But Nketiah only needed a minute to make an impact, scoring the equaliser with his first touch of the game.

The match entered extra-time and Nketiah popped up again, this time heading home Mohamad Elneny's fine cross on the 96th minute mark.

Speaking after the game, Wenger said of Nketiah's performance: "The fact that we needed to score goals, that he can score goals and overall I think in the end we had eight strikers on the pitch basically.

"He has shown that he has the qualities, but as well when a team needs you and you can deliver that is another quality that you don't know before you put the players on.

"I like especially the header he scored because he is not tall and we see the way he took it shows he has a fantastic leap, but as well the heading is a determined attitude and so that as well shows character and desire to score."

Asked if he could remember a youngster having such an impact on a game, Wenger replied: "No, I can't remember a game like that, no."
