Arsenal boss Wenger tells Rummenigge to get with the times

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is still bristling over a withering attack on his transfer policy from Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says Arsenal's approach is nothing short of "child trafficking".

But Wenger told the News of the World: "I am surprised at such an aggressive statement which has nothing to do with reality.

"We only pick up two or three players a year and when we get teenagers we give them a proper chance - none of which can be said for Bayern.

"What will happen if we are no longer allowed to sign up any under 18 year olds? Some agent, who has signed up a couple of under- age talents from South America or Africa, will buy some small club somewhere. He will put the boys in there and when they turn 18 he will sell them to Europe.

"The transfer fee will go from the small club into the pocket of the agent. That's slave trade. Nowadays children grow up in the entire world - I grew up in a village.

"When Rummenigge was born, people could think as far as the boundaries of their home town. Today I go into a restaurant in Paris and there is an Arsenal or Manchester United fan sitting next to me.

"Today you have the internet. You can watch a football match every day and you are united."
