Arsenal boss Wenger takes aim at Southampton fans for Puel sacking

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has taken aim Southampton fans ahead of today's clash.

Wenger reckons some of Southampton's struggles stem from bowing to fan pressure last summer and sacking Claude Puel.

Wenger, no stranger to supporter pressure, said: “I know that very well. It's part of the modern game.

"That is why a club should always continue doing what it believes is right. Claude had done well there. I rated Pellegrino as well but it's very difficult for me to know what happened.

“Maybe because they had injuries and they lost Virgil van Dijk as well.

“They were in League One not so long ago and when you think back to the quality of the players they had, it is quite impressive – they had Adam Lallana, Jay Rodriguez, Victor Wanyama, Van Dijk, Gareth Bale, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott

“The players they had over the years you would fall on your knees for."
