Schalke defender Benedikt Höwedes is being tracked by Arsenal.
Kicker says the 22 year-old has emerged as a top target for Gunners boss Arsene Wenger ahead of the January market.
Wenger is in the market for another defender and Howedes' versatility is attractive.
Along with the Schalke stopper, Wenger is also having scouts track Werder Bremen centre-half Per Mertesacker in Germany.
