Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is preparing a £10 million bid for Wolves striker Kevin Doyle.

The News of the World says a source very close to Doyle said Wenger has been inquiring about Doyle in the last six months.

Talks have yet to begin, but Arsenal have sounded out Doyle's former club Reading - where they have close contacts - about the forward's character.

Wenger said recently: "I like him personally. He is an intelligent striker.

"He's good everywhere. I followed him since he was at Reading."
