Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger sees Bacary Sagna as a centre-half this season.
The Telegraph says Arsenal are also trying to recruit a right-sided defender as Wenger believes that Sagna, the club's regular right-back, is ready to play more frequently in central defence next season.
Malaga wing-back Jesus Gamez has attracted enquiries from the Gunners.
