Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was pleased with Thomas Vermaelen's debut in yesterday's 2-2 friendly draw against Barnet.

"He had a good start and I think he had a good welcome to English football because he got some good challenges here," Wenger told arsenal.com.

"I think it was a good start for him overall. He is strong, solid, calm and when he became more confident in the second half you could see that he passes the ball well. He should be a good addition to the squad yes."
