Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wants to buy an experienced shot-stopper.
The Daily Mail says with Manuel Almunia expected to leave this summer and Jens Lehmann set to return to Germany, Wenger lacks a keeper with substantial first-team experience at the top level.
Injuries to Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski, coupled by the erratic form of Almunia, exposed Arsenal's lack of experience between the sticks last season.
And Wenger is determined not to make the same mistake again ahead of the new season.
Wenger wanted Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer - who has since joined Bayern Munich - but was not prepared to meet his £22m asking price.
The Frenchman views Szczesny as Arsenal's long-term No 1 but knows he cannot allow a repeat of the goalkeeping mishaps that have cost his side dear in recent years if Arsenal are to end their long-running trophy drought next season.
