Arsenal boss Wenger: Pires dived to save Invincibles record

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admits Robert Pires dived to secure their Invincibles record during the 2003/04 Premier League title campaign.

The Gunners drew 1-1 at home with Portsmouth in September of their stunning season.

Their controversial equaliser came after Pires tumbled in the box, even though there appeared to be no contact from defender Dejan Stefanovic.

Thierry Henry converted the penalty, leaving the then Pompey boss Harry Redknapp seething.

After the match, France star Pires said: “I did not dive and I am not a cheat. That is not the way I play.”

Wenger said: “Pires once dived against Portsmouth. For six months it was a story. Dyer dived and nobody said a word. If it doesn’t matter when Dyer dives, why does it matter when Pires dives?”

Hmmm.... funny how it doesn't mention that Henry had to take the penalty twice because the first penalty was ruled out for infringement and he still scored both times! Gooner For Life!

If u say that, that dive secured us an Invincible record and then compare it with the Dyer situation which resulted in just ONE loss in d PL, then MAHN - i'd anyday take this Karma and be more than happy!
