Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists they never made a firm move for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku is expected to move on this season with Chelsea and Manchester United considering move and Wenger was asked about his position on the striker and if he'd ever tried to sign him.

The Belgium international was sold by Chelsea to the Toffees back in 2014.

And Arsenal boss Wenger says the 24-year-old was never a realistic target when he was younger.

"If you look at his record and age it's quite impressive," Wenger said when asked about Lukaku.

"No one scored more goals in the Premier League at his age.

"We were not really after him because he was at Chelsea."
