Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has played down suggestions he is set to make a shock move for Chelsea veteran Frank Lampard.
The 34-year old midfielder has recently fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge and it was believed that Wenger was looking to give him a lifeline with a Janaury shift across London.
However, talk of the mooted transfer was met with derision by Wenger who referred to Greek philosopher Socrates when quizzed on Lampard at the pre-match press conference for tomorrow night's Champiuons League meeting with Olympiakos.
"We are in the country of Socrates. He said, 'I know that I know nothing', and that is a bit like football," said the Frenchman of Lampard.
Lampard comes out of contract with the Blues in the summer and he has recently been linked with a number of clubs, particularly to head to MLS champions LA Galaxy as David Beckham's replacement.
