Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admits he signed Theo Walcott from Southampton ahead of Tottenham superstar Gareth Bale. Wenger insists he didn't move for then Saints kid Bale as he was regarded as a left-back.

When asked if he came close to signing Bale, Wenger said: "Yes, but we had full-backs at the time. We had (Gael) Clichy, we had (Ashley) Cole.

"We were more on Walcott. Walcott was a lot of money."
