Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is happy to structure his new contract offer to William Gallas.
The Sunday Mirror says Gallas wants a two-year contract extension, with Marseille and Paris St Germain keen to bring him back to his home country.
Now Wenger is willing to compromise by offering a one-year deal with a further one-year option.
That gives Gallas the freedom to decide if he wants to continue at Arsenal at the end of next season.
Wenger said: "I feel positive about him staying. He is a winner and I believe he enjoys being with this team.
"I expected him to leave when I took the captaincy off him but he found a new balance. He has played very, very well and I don't want to lose him."
