Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has blasted Fulham rival Lawrie Sanchez for accusing his players of diving during Sunday's Premiership opener.

Unaware that Sanchez had apologised earlier in the day, Wenger defended his charges and made the counter claim that only Steven Davis, the Fulham midfielder, had sought to deceive the referee.

"I was very disappointed [at Sanchez's comments] because I saw one real dive and it was not by an Arsenal player," said Wenger. "It was Davis. When you are attacked and not in the right way, sometimes it is your job to point out what is right. Accusations like these can influence referees in future games but I hope they do not."
