Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says they came close to making a big signing on Thursday. Wenger was in the market for Barcelona striker David Villa, 31, and may revive his interest in the summer while Fiorentina's Stevan Jovetic is also on their radar.

"We were close to one more signature, yes," revealed Wenger.

"It did not happen because of the desires of the clubs to sell or not to sell, it is only linked with that.

"It was not a money problem, it was more a desire from other clubs to keep their players."
