Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists he was happy with William Gallas' captaincy last season.

Gallas, who was handed the skipper's armband last summer, came in for heavy criticism following his reaction to the Gunners' 2-2 draw against Birmingham City in February.

"I think he has done quite well last year for the biggest part of the season and a lot of responsibility has been given to him when it was right," Wenger said in the Daily Mail.
