Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was pleased to collect three points from Tyneside after a 1-0 win at Newcastle United today.
The Gunners scored early in the second half when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's angled drive found its way through Fabricio Coloccini's legs and past Tim Krul in the Toon goal.
Newcastle were on the back foot from the 16 minute mark after Aleksandar Mitrovic was harshly sent off by ref Andre Marriner for an apparent stamp on Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin.
Newcastle failed to register a single shot on target over the full 90.
Afterwards, Gunners boss Wenger told BT Sport: "We were always on top. We were mature and intelligent and the win was so important maybe we were a bit cautious.
"They toughened the game up, they decided from the start to make it very physical but we kept our nerve.
"We are out there and working on it (signings). I am optimisic but it is difficult to predict. We have offensive potential but you always want more and more goalscorers. We have not fired offensively, our finishing has been clinical and have to improve on that."
