Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger had a close look at Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema before signing Alexandre Lacazette.
The Gunners completed the signing of Lacazette from Lyon earlier this month.
Diario Gol says he was not the only man on Arsene Wenger's shortlist of strikers.
They claim the Arsenal boss was also in talks over a deal for Benzema, 29.
But negotiations have apparently ended since his France teammate arrived at the Emirates.
