Arsenal boss Wenger expects Beckham to play on

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is delighted having David Beckham training with his squad.

Wenger has no immediate desire to add the former England skipper to his squad, despite failing to sign any new recruits this month.

"He is fantastic and that's one of the reasons I take him here," said Wenger.

"He is here early in the morning and the young English players always look at him and take his advice on board.

"He told me he has not done anything since he stopped at LA Galaxy. I don't believe that. I was surprised. But maybe he wanted to get a bit away from it. He is 37 as well, you know.

"Beckham is super-ambitious. If in his mind he wanted to play in the Premier League he would not have gone on holiday, he would have prepared and come in and tried to impress me.

"He has told me he has done nothing at all. He told me that he doesn't look at all to be in shape. But he wants to get fit again. He is a sportsman and maybe in June he has plans to play somewhere, maybe take three or four months off and prepare for next season."
