Arsene Wenger has revealed that Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny played with a stomach issue on Wednesday night.
The Egypt international fell ill prior to the EFL Cup quarter-final against Southampton which ended in misery for the Gunners who lost 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium.
Elneny, 24, got through 43 mounts before he had to be replaced by Granit Xhaka in the disappointing defeat.
Wenger said: "Elneny was sick before the game and I could see after 10 minutes that he wasn't right.
"He has no injury but he has a stomach problem."
