Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is seeking to buy a new defender before the start of the season.
Wenger has seen a £10million offer for Everton's Phil Jagielka turned down. And despite tracking Bolton's £17m star Gary Cahill and £12m-rated Christopher Samba of Blackburn, he has failed to make a serious bid.
Wenger said: "We will have to find one more defender. I can promise we work very hard on it.
"Around Europe you will see little movement as clubs who are selling hold out as long as they can. It will speed up in August."
Asked about his interest in Jagielka, and in a veiled swipe at Barcelona over Cesc Fabregas, Wenger said: "I do not want to do to clubs what some clubs do to us."
