Arsenal boss Wenger: Brooking recognises our academy success

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed the FA's development chief Sir Trevor Brooking agrees their academy is producing some of England's best young players.

Wenger is clearly sick of being blamed for the decline of the England team.

He said: "I spoke with Trevor Brooking this morning and he agrees that some of the best young English players are coming through at Arsenal.

"There are some boys in our Under-17 team who will soon have the technical quality to compete at the level of our senior team. But we need to be patient with them.

"I do not believe England don't have the players to compete with the rest of the world and I don't see why England could not play the Arsenal way.

"It was a real shock to me that we could not get the point we needed on Wednesday.

"I say 'we' because I am an England supporter, too. After 11 years here, of course I am. I love the passion for football here.

"Unfortunately, apparently I am to blame because I don't produce enough English players!"
