Arsenal boss insists he cannot change supporter emotions

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has stated that he is powerless to change the sentiments of the angry Gunners supporters.

Arsenal have once again faltered in their title challenge this season and after the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace last weekend, the Gunners face a real fight to even finish in the top four.

Understandably, there has been a lot of anger directed towards Wenger following another season of failure but the Frenchman remains defiant and has stated that there is nothing he can do to change the emotions of the unhappy supporters.

Ahead of Thursday night's clash with West Bromwich Albion, Wenger said: "I want our fans to be happy and, when they are not, it affects me. An environment has been created that is negative and we have to live with that and transform it.

"It's the modern world, what can I do about that? I have no power to change the emotions of our fans other than with results. Maybe the players are affected by the mood but we have to deal with it. I don't think it stops you from scoring a goal.

"I would like to remind everyone that if we win this game against West Brom, we are third. We are not happy with that, but it is nothing to be ashamed of if you look at the consistency of the club over its 140-year history."
