Arsenal attacker Walcott still wants striker role

Arsenal attacker Theo Walcott retains hope of convincing manager Arsene Wenger his best position is as striker.

Walcott is fully fit and ready to boost Arsenal's title push.

He told the London Evening Standard: "I still believe I am a striker but with the team playing this formation, it is difficult at this moment in time."

The suspicion about Walcott in that position is that he does not have the physical presence required to play as a lone striker in Wenger's 4-2-3-1 system but the 24-year-old believes he offers a viable alternative to Giroud's hold-up play.

"I definitely could play the one up front because of the amount of combination work the midfielders do, I would stretch teams as well," he said. "Last year I was top goalscorer for Arsenal and top English goalscorer in all competitions so my level is definitely there."
