Arsenal almost signed Chelsea's Hazard says Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that the club were extremely close to signing Eden Hazard a couple of years ago.

The Belgian ace was a target for the Gunners while he was with French club Lille in 2012 but ended up joining Chelsea for £32million, however, it was not before Wenger went after his signature.

"Yes, I wanted to take him. I had his agent at my home but again the barrier was financial and Chelsea made an effort that I couldn't make," he told BeIN Sports.

"He can be one of the players who grows into the [Lionel] Messi, [Cristiano] Ronaldo stature if he continues to develop well."
