Arsenal captain Robin van Persie has admitted to never thinking he would end up as a striker.
The Dutchman leads the Premier League scoring charts with 27 goals this season but says that he always saw himself playing as more of a Dennis Bergkamp type behind the main frontman than an out-and-out centre forward.
"I actually never played there before - I did it a couple of times at youth level but it was nothing really
"That was the idea from day one.
"The boss didn't buy someone else because he was convinced I could do it.""I never really thought that I would end up as a main striker," he told the club's official website.
