Arsenal ace Alexis Sanchez, Vargas send Chile to Copa America quarters

Alexis Sanchez scored twice as Chile progressed to the quarter-finals of Copa America 2016.

The reigning South American champions came from behind to defeat Panama 4-2 in Philadelphia on Tuesday to set up a knockout stage showdown with Mexico.

Man of the Match Eduardo Vargas levelled for La Roja on 15 minutes after Miguel Camargo opened the scoring for the Panamanians from long range 10 minutes earlier, before the Hoffenheim forward put Chile into the lead with his second goal on 43 minutes when heading home Jean Beausejour's left-wing cross.

Vargas then turned provider when teeing up Gunners star Sanchez who unleashed an unstoppable volley from about 15 yards to make it 3-1.

Panama were back in the contest when Abdiel Arroyo headed home with 15 minutes remaining before Sanchez put the icing on the cake for Chile with a fabulous header from Jose Fuenzalida's cross from the left.

The victory saw Chile finish second in Group D behind favourites Argentina and they will now take on Group C's top side Mexico in the final eight in Santa Clara on Saturday.
