Arena, Dunivant unable to compare 2011 LA Galaxy team with others

The LA Galaxy championship-winning team of 2011 will surely be rated with the other top teams in MLS history.

The Galaxy took out the Supporters' Shield with the second-best ever points total in league history on their way to the MLS Cup triumph over Houston Dynamo on Sunday and they will certainly be compared with those before them that have achieved similar things.

But head coach Bruce Arena says it is far too hard to compare the Galaxy class of '11 to those before them.

"I'd like to be able to say that (this team is the best), but I don't know how you do that. I just don't," Arena said.

"I mean, this is a good team, and we've accomplished a lot this year. To have the regular season we had, and then throw in the CONCACAF Champions League and then to win the MLS Cup, it's a hell of an accomplishment.

"I really think if I say this team belongs there, you minimize accomplishments of others," Arena added.

"There have been some very good teams in this league. I just think we're another one of those."

Whilst defender Todd Dunivant, although extremely happy with this year's Galaxy squad, feels it impossible to make a straight comparison.

"That's one that could definitely be argued," Dunivant said. "I don't know how you compare us to teams from the mid-90s, but this ranks right up there."
