Tottenham legend Ossie Ardiles insists they will be title contenders this new season.

Ardiles, who made 221 appearances for Spurs in a ten-year spell, is adamant that his former club can compete with the big guns.

He told the Daily Star Sunday: "We certainly are contenders for the title this time around.

"Our midfield is going to be absolutely great.

"We have Sandro, Mousa Dembele, Paulinho - another great, great player - and Gareth Bale.

"With Soldado and somebody else up front we are going to have a very powerful squad.

"Is it going to be good enough to challenge the three big guys that are going to be fighting for the title?

"I don't know, but we will be very, very close."
