Alberto Aquilani believes Roma's victory at Palermo is proof that they will be serious title contenders this season.

The young midfielder struck in the 2-0 win and declared: "We're very happy because it was crucial to get off on the right foot with a win.

"This was not only an away win, but it came against one of the best sides in Serie A. It wasn't easy, but we did it. Winning the Super Cup gave us a boost and was an injection of confidence."
