Anzhi are preparing a £50 million bid for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney. The England international has largely repaired his relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson since handing in a transfer request two years ago, says the Daily Star.

But the Old Trafford boss is still concerned at the 27-year-old's inability to eradicate dips in his form, when he should be reaching his peak as a player.

With Rooney likely to command a fee of at least £50million, the Scot could be tempted to re-invest the huge sum into much-needed replacements for veteran midfielders Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.
