Anzhi chief Tkachenko: Deal for Inter Milan star Eto'o landmark day for Russian football

Anzhi chief German Tkachenko believes today is a landmark day for Russian football after terms were struck for Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto'o.

Anzhi announced last night the deal had been agreed.

And Tkachenko, who was heavily involved in negotiations, declared: "For the first time in the history of Russian football, we've grabbed one of the five best players in the world today. I think this is a landmark acquisition, not only for the club, but for the entire Russian Premier League, now the most watched in world football.

"We wanted to buy Eto'o and we have taken seriously all the aspects of the contract. And I'll tell you a secret: Before he accepted, Eto'o has sought the opinion of 14 of his former teammates, not only from Inter. Finally, he decided, and I am very happy."

On the world record terms, Tkachenko would only say: "We and Inter have agreed that the financial aspects of the transaction will not be disclosed. But we are very happy, because it differs from the original figure of the club's request."
