Estudiantes fullback Marcos Angeleri has passed a Sunderland medical on Wearside.

The Evening Chronicle says the right-back, who plays for Buenos Aires club Estudiantes, is expected to complete his £2m move to the Black Cats later this week and sign a four-year contract.

With Sunderland and Estudiantes agreeing a fee for the 27-year-old last week and Angeleri agreeing terms, the medical was the final hurdle to be negotiated before the move could be finalised.

Angeleri is currently in the process of acquiring an Italian passport - which will enable him to move to Europe without needing a work permit - but that is understood to be a formality.
