Nicolas Anelka is on the brink of signing a new contract with Chelsea.

The Daily Express says Anelka is poised to sign a new two-year contract with Chelsea.

Agreement has been reached on an extension to his £90,000-a-week deal.

Anelka, 31, has not demanded a rise - in stark contract to Joe Cole, who wanted about £120,000 per week and found himself released on a free transfer.

Anelka, who trained with the France squad yesterday for their opening World Cup game against Uruguay tomorrow, scored 15 goals last season and, unlike Cole, was a regular in Carlo Ancelotti's team.
