According to Anelka's agent, Doug Pingisi, the forward also hopes to move in time for the visit of Spurs.

"He really wants to go to Chelsea," Pingisi told L'Equipe. "Nicolas is calm. He hopes everything will be finalised this week. He has been waiting for such an opportunity for years.

"He appreciates that he is at the top of the list of players wanted by Chelsea at the moment."

Pingisi has also revealed Anelka's motivation for leaving Bolton would be to play in the UEFA Champions League.

"For Nico, it is very important he finds a club that will allow him to express himself at the highest level," Pingisi added. "Moreover, this club is still involved in every competition, particularly the Champions League."
