And Chelsea said, 'Let their be Light'

Dutch lighting specialist Royal Philips has agreed a contract with Premier League outfit Chelsea to install LED floodlights at Stamford Bridge, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/. The Eindhoven-based firm's ArenaVision LED floodlighting system will be installed at the 41,000-capacity stadium in time for Chelsea's preseason friendly match against Spanish side Real Sociedad on Tuesday.

According to an official press release, Chelsea will become the first top-flight football club in the world to complete an upgrade to LED pitch lighting.

German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich struck a similar deal with Philips, which also includes their stadium's outer façade, in May.

Unlike traditional lighting systems which can take up to 30 minutes to warm up, the Philips' LED system can be instantly switched on and off. It also meets the Premier League's standards for TV broadcasting and high definition super slow-motion replays.
