Ancelotti: Moscow final convinced me about Chelsea job

Carlo Ancelotti has revealed he chose to join Chelsea after seeing them lose the Champions League final in Moscow to Manchester United.

For Ancelotti, this week's clash at Spartak Moscow will remind him of exactly why he chose to become Chelsea manager 12 months later.

He said: "When I was watching that final I said that this would be my next team - my future team.

"I liked the behaviour of the players on the pitch, the personality and character.

"In the first half they did not play well, but the second half was totally different.

"Drogba hit the post towards the end and then we arrived at the penalties and it was difficult to say who would win the game.

"At the time I knew that Chelsea were a good team and that game was in the balance. A draw was the right result - Chelsea played at the same level as Man United that night."

The match was Avram Grant's last in charge of the Blues and it didn't take long for owner Roman Abramovich to identify his first-choice replacement.

"Roman approached me after that game for the first time," said Ancelotti. "We met in Paris."
