Ancelotti and Scholes take August awards

Carlo Ancelotti and Paul Scholes have been named Barclays Premier League manager and player of the month respectively, for August. Chelsea boss Ancelotti has been rewarded for guiding the Blues to maximum points from their opening three matches.

The reigning champions plundered 14 goals without reply as they made a flying start to the defence of their crown.

The Italian tactician was the only coach to oversee a perfect start to the season in the top flight and he collects the manager of the month gong for the second time since arriving in England back in the summer of 2009.

Manchester United midfielder Scholes, meanwhile, is an old hand when it comes to collecting such awards, as he takes the Premier League prize for a fourth time.

He gave a midfield master class in United's opener against Newcastle, laying on goals for Dimitar Berbatov and Ryan Giggs in a 3-0 win.

Scholes rounded off the month by playing a key role in a 3-0 victory over West Ham which helped to keep Sir Alex Ferguson's side on the coattails of the early pacesetters.
