New York Cosmos has named the American Cancer Society (ACS) as its first ‘official charity partner’, reports www.sportspromedia.com/.
The partnership will see Cosmos players helping to promote health awareness by wearing a blue and pink ribbon on their jersey sleeves.
The nationwide, community-based voluntary health organisation will also be the team’s featured ‘Charity of the Match’ twice during this 2013 fall season with one night focusing on men’s health awareness and the second night on breast cancer awareness.
Fundraisers to support the charity will be held at Hofstra University’s Shuart Stadium during these games, and each night an exclusive game-worn jersey raffle will be held, with all proceeds going to ACS.
“The American Cancer Society is a wonderful organisation dedicated to helping millions of people who drastically need their support,” said Cosmos chief operating officer, Erik Stover.
“We are grateful to be in a position to assist them and I’m looking forward to the great support I know our fans will also show them.”
The Cosmos’ first game will be held on 3rd August against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.
