Shola Ameobi is keen to see Newcastle United's youngsters grab their chance at Maritimo tonight.

Reserves including Haris Vukic, Dan Gosling, Gael Bigirimana and Shane Ferguson are in line to be put to the test against Maritimo, as Pardew tests the depth of his resources here on the holiday island of Madeira.

Ameobi told the Mirror: "They'll have their chance to put their stamp on the club, especially with so many senior players not being here. The kids we have are all very level-headed and want to do well.

"I have learnt a lot from playing in Europe, the different styles of play, different tempos to the games, it was all part of the learning curve."
