Marco Amelia has revealed how he got in touch with Jose Mourinho prior to his move to Chelsea.
Upon hearing of the knee injury sustained by Blues number one Thibaut Courtois, 33-year-old Amelia phoned Mourinho and proposed that the reigning Premier League champions sign him.
Former AC Milan gloveman Amelia was a free agent at the time and was then invited to West London for a trial before signing with the club earlier this month.
"When Courtois had his injury, I sent a message to Mourinho's staff and asked if they needed a goalkeeper," said Amelia.
"Then Mourinho called me and I spoke to him about my situation.
"He said, 'Okay, Marco. Come here and train with us and then we will decide your situation'.
"I did two or three training sessions with the team, before the Newcastle and Porto games and after those the club called me to come and sign a contract."
